15 Food Accounts I’m Constantly Bookmarking
Project 365, Day 30
In yesterday’s post, something like two of you asked for me to share some food accounts I follow on Instagram. Two people, of course, are not indicative of my whole readership, but I didn’t have much else in me today and thought, yeah…I can do that. I can round up some great accounts I follow and always bookmark. As I’ve mentioned, one of my favorite pastimes is staring at photos of food. Not like, longingly…I can eat whatever I want when I want, but because I just think some photos of food are so beautiful!
Anyhow, that said, I follow A LOT of food-related content on social media. Hundreds probably, but I tried to curate a list to share with you of accounts I’ve actually cooked from or turn to again and again. There are more, of course, but let’s start here.
General Food Interest
Half Baked Harvest: I put Tieghan’s account first because her photos are probably the most beautiful and if you follow food people on Instagram, you may already follow her. Her recipes run the gamut from apps, to cocktails, to one-pot meals to desserts. I’ve made several of her recipes and they’re always good. Her salted honey butter yeast rolls are a new holiday favorite for me. I made them for Thanksgiving and the first thing Charles asked me when I planned our Christmas menu was “but you’re making those rolls again, right?!?” Her recipes are pretty rich but great for those meals you want something solidly yummy and comforting.
Pinch of Yum: PoY is a fantastic all-around, everyday meal type follow. Some healthy options, some decadent options. Her lentil soup is a favorite of mine, as is this shrimp dish.
Smitten Kitchen: Some might say Smitten Kitchen is the OG food blogger. Honestly, she may be. This blog (and account) is not just pretty photos of food. She KNOWS her stuff. Her recipes are ALWAYS good…the standard for recipes you can trust honestly. There’s a comfort to SK that you won’t find on a lot of other food blogs. It feels like an old friend, showing you how to make an apple cake, not some random person on the internet who happens to let you borrow their recipe.
Spoon Fork Bacon: This is a newer follow for me, but I really enjoy their mix of recipes. It’s a friend duo (one is a food stylist, the other a photographer). There’s a homey vibe to the types of foods they cook (I love their broccoli cheddar soup) with a bit of a modern flair.
The Defined Dish: I really enjoy Alex as a person, which never hurts. I follow her not just for her food but for her. When I do Whole30, she has always been someone I turn to for ideas, but she cooks up plenty of non-Whole30 things, as well! Not to recommend another soup, but her Whole30 zuppa toscana is excellent for anyone who avoids dairy.
The Feed Feed: Okay, so The Feed Feed isn’t one set person. It’s a feed that shares food accounts, and I find SO many great recipes and people to follow here. I could scroll their feed literally all day. (Also, how beautiful is that oatmeal? Is it strange that I have dozens of beautiful images of oatmeal bookmarked?)
The Original Dish: This account is all about comfort food. Soups, pastas, one-pot meals, French toast, etc. Just go take a look at her feed, you’ll see what I mean. I don’t recall actually cooking much from her recipes, but I did have far more of her images bookmarked than I would have guessed.
What’s Gaby Cooking: I LOVE GABY! She just had her first baby after years of miscarriages and fertility issues. I followed her through that and the joy I felt when that baby finally entered the world! I mean, she’s a stranger, but it was really nice. Anyhow, she has wonderful recipes. Full stop. Her images are beautiful, her recipes are well rounded, and she always seems to have a bit of a twist to her food which I really like. It’s a good way to shake up things you’ve always done. (Gaby, be my friend, pretty please!)
Special Food Interest*
*What I mean by this is, they do one thing or have a niche.
No Crumbs Left: I’ve shared Teri’s recipes before (and her fantastic ceramics line). She’s one of my favorite people to follow on stories. I feel like I’m checking in on my mom and she’s checking in on me. I adore Teri so much, I went and followed her daughter and her son, just on the merit of Teri. She does a lot of Whole30 but also plenty of non-Whole30. And no one makes a salad platter more beautiful or appealing than Teri.
Skinnytaste: Don’t let the name fool you. I’ve followed Gina since the first time I did WW (Weight Watchers) 10 years ago, but a decade later, I still turn to her blog for recipes. Her shtick is everything she makes is made lighter but even if that’s no concern to you, you would love her recipes. I bought my mom her cookbook recently and she gushed about all the things to me recently. She also has great Latin recipes that aren’t always the easiest to find in a user-friendly format (or maybe I’m just not looking hard enough?).
Pasta Social Club: Hi Meryl!! I’ve written about Meryl in a past newsletter I believe. I’m SO proud of her and her accomplishments. I met Meryl exactly once when she worked in the world of public relations, but her passion was in food and she gosh dang made her dreams come true. She’s not the resident pasta writer at Food52 and I promise, this will not be the last time you hear about Pasta Social Club. Oh, and after years of testing fresh pasta dough recipes, I find my perfect dough with Meryl. She does virtual workshops, too, which I’d highly recommend!
Baking Follows
Baker by Nature: If you do nothing else, follow this account for her photos of cheesecake and brownies and cookies. They are BEYOND. Her brownie recipe isn’t half bad either. 😉 Oh, as is her cod (which is a funny thing to say for a “dessert” account but it’s VERY good).
Dessert for Two: Love this format! Sometimes, you want cookies or a cake, but not for a whole basketball team. She has other recipes besides sweets, but I’m really just in it for the pared-down treats.
Joy the Baker: Another OG for me. Joy had the type of food blog that I actually read. I didn’t just go to grab a recipe for cupcakes or cinnamon rolls. I was there for her, her stories, all of it. I followed her back when she lived in LA and took photos of her creations next to the sunniest window in her apartment. Now, she’s a force in the food world, and I LOVE to see it. I can’t even start to share all the things I’ve made from Joy, so I won’t. It’s all good!
King Arthur Baking Company: And lastly, whoever is in charge of the King Arthur Baking Company social account on their marketing team, give them a raise. They do such a great job at creating a brand-based account that you actually care to follow and care about. Amazing tips for bakers, super in-depth nitty gritty…stuff worth nerding out over if you love to bake.
And that’s all I have for you today. Someone also asked that I share some design accounts, which maybe I’ll do next week when I don’t have much else in me.
See you tomorrow, friends!
