5 Quick Things
Project 365, Day 56/365
Is it just me, or was this week exceptionally long? I just went through the exercise of trying to mentally go back to Monday, and gotta be honest…I don’t remember it. What even was my Monday blog post? It’s safe to say, I’m ready for a few days to unwind. But first, a few quick things.
Quick Thing #1
This might seem a bit random, but I wanted to share my go-to lasagna recipe. This is spectacular. It’s quite rustic, and its name—birthday lasagna—is exactly what it feels like. A meal you wish someone would cook you on your birthday, that you would eat at a table surrounded by people you love. Quick story time: One of the best lasagnas I ever ate was in the living room of a stranger who put me up for the night during my first visit to Lake Como, Italy. I was in Milan for work (that sounds far fancier than it was), and one of my coworkers suggested we go out to Lake Como as an old friend of hers lived in one of the towns that surrounded the lake. I thought I’d just go for the day and hop back on the train that night, but I stayed, and discovered a little slice of heaven…in a region and in lasagna. My friend’s friend said she was going down the street to grab a pre-made lasagna from her “lasagna guy” and wow was it spectacular. It was made with a ragu, a bechamel sauce, thin fresh pasta sheets and just a bit of cheese atop. This is a very similar recipe. It calls for no-boil pasta, but I always make my own. If you’re vegetarian, you can use my friend Meryl’s “sugo finto” (meatless ragu) which is, I promise, better than any meat-based bolognese you’ve ever made prior.
Quick Thing #2
I audibly gasped when I say this photo. I had the pleasure of working with Stephen and David (Renovation Husbands is what they go by) last year during the One Room Challenge, and wow are they talented. They do everything with their own human hands and their taste is just…::chef’s kiss:: This city, from their emerald green salon, through their absolutely stunning dining room into the sapphire room at the end makes me 100% know that any debate I had about going “neutral” in my bedroom was a lie to myself. Color makes me come a live. Plain and simple.
Quick Thing #3
The hunt for a comfortable, supportive, wireless bra has been one of my most frustrating hobbies during quarantine. I mean…who wants to be bothered with a wired bra?!? No thanks. I have a few that I really like, but recently added this bra to my repertoire and I really like it! Running is not something that will be performed in this any time soon (ha, like I can run), but for being at home, working, this thing has surprising support for something that definitely does not look it.
Quick Thing #4
I saw a friend share this saying the other day and it made me smile. And I agree with it 100%!
Quick Thing #5
And finally, it’s nothing to link. I was going to recommend this face oil I just finished that I plan on repurchasing because it’s been wonderful, but I’ll save that for next week. Quick Thing #5 is how much I’ve enjoyed reading my own blog’s comment section lately. Especially on Wednesday’s post. I love learning about the women who give me their eyeballs every day. It’s truly such a delight and a treasure. It feels like a community but also like a warm embrace every. single. day. I had a thought today that I wish we could all meet up for dinner, sit around a GIANT table, somehow still hear each other, and hear about each other’s lives. What a wonderful dinner that would be! No shellfish for Emie, no meat for Rusty, Kelli could probably recommend the restaurant if her own blog name tells me anything…these are tiny basically meaningless details about “strangers” but to me, they unlock the each of you just a little bit every time I learn something new. Maybe it’s my inner journalist. My favorite assignment was always a personal profile…I loved unlocking a stranger and telling their story. I say this often, but thank you all for being here. Let’s keep having fun!
See you tomorrow, friends!
