5 Quick Things…Sort Of
Hello my sweet little community of blog friends. Thank you again for your words yesterday with my vulnerable post. It’s not always easy to write those things or admit those things. I’m truly a very happy person with so much good in my life, but I like to share the pleasant times and the not-so-pleasant times because I’m a human, and so are you, and it’s important to share those things with each other. I’m a textbook oversharer, which I guess is why I’m a writer…too much living in my head and heart and soul that I have to blab about all the time, and thanks to the weird Internet, I can find a comfy corner to chat in with people who want to listen.
The last two days have been a bit better than earlier this week, so I’m focusing on that! When I stop for a moment and think back, moments like Tuesday night came often many months ago, sometimes lasting days on end. And now, they pop up occasionally, which makes them maybe even more jarring but I’ll take it as progress! One step at a time, one day at a time.
On Fridays, I normally share 5 quick things, but I don’t actually have much from this week to share. Beyond not feeling my best, I’ve been busy with a few other life things getting thrown at us, so besides a menthol rub I bought from my chiropractor and the third season of the show You on Netflix, I don’t really have all that much to report on here. Instead, I dug through my “saved” folder on Instagram and will share 5 recent things that caught my attention (and why):
I’m not sure the true style of this home, but a “center hall” home (or Georgian center hall) has always been one of my favorites. It reminds me of the house from the movie Home Alone, which was firmly my “dream” home for the majority of my adolescence, and well…still now I guess if I’m being honest. This seems to be quite the eclectic design scheme, what from the moss green moldings in this room paired with the block-printed wallpaper, to the vintage rug, to the wood applique detailing on the stairs to the mauve room in the distance. It’s a house that has fun with likely pretty serious architecture, and I love that.
And now, for the complete opposite. A room that takes itself VERY seriously, but I was drawn to it because I’m not really that attracted to nearly entirely brown spaces, but this one felt so warm and inviting and wonderful. I think it’s the textures. The beautiful terra cotta floors, the rough linen draperies, the wood chairs and table. It’s grand but cozy, and I think that’s not the easiest thing to achieve.
Baked sage chicken meatballs with creamy parmesan orzo and spinach…um wow. I love orzo in just about anything, and this stopped me dead in my tracks. I forgot I meant to try to cook this last week, and now I remember, and I hope to add it to my list for next week.
We’re deep into soup season and anything with little pasta shapes and a sprinkling of parmesan will always catch my eye. This is a chickpea soup that looks light but also hearty all at once. Easy, full of pantry staples and probably a pretty quick easy meal, unless I’m missing something about that broth being a thing you need to simmer for 24 hours to develop a rich flavor profile, but I doubt it. (A simple click over to the recipe would answer me, but I like living in suspense.)
And finally, a beautiful thought. You have not missed out on what was meant for you. That’s powerful, friends.
See you Monday, FOAS.
