6 Everyday Things I Couldn’t Live Without (Or At Least Wouldn’t Want To)

Project 365, Day 192/365

It never seems fun spending money on everyday things. Socks, a really good shower caddy, lingerie bags. But I have to tell you, these are the things that make your life easier, and that is always worth your money and consideration, me thinks. Yes, a new handbag or a new pair of beautiful shoes are great, but show me something that functions really well and you’ve won me over.

Part of the reason I started this blog was to recommend products, so you didn’t waste your money on garbage. I hate wasting money on garbage. The bacon, egg, and cheese bagel sandwich I splurged on this morning in terms of my diet because I really wanted one was a huge disappointment, and I was upset. If I’m going to spend my money, then I want something that won’t disappoint. That doesn’t always mean the most expensive thing either, but sometimes…it does.

I wracked my brain for the things I use all the time (some every day) that have improved my routine or just felt like money well spent, because isn’t that something we all want? Here are six things I came up with, most of which I’ve shared at some point or another in a post, but I figured I’d wrangle them here:

Peds Women’s 2pk Cozy Slipper Liner Socks, $8

Hands down, best no-show socks ever. $8 for a pair of socks might seem steep, but honestly, I’d pay twice as much for them. The inside is super soft and luxurious without being hot, the grip on the back doesn’t budge…at all (I’ve slept in these before and wake up with them still in place), and they’re thin enough that they add no bulk to your shoes. Get them…then get another pair. They will be the only socks you reach for if you’re anything like me.

AQUIS Original Hair Turban, $21

I lived far too long with a floppy, heavy, bulky towel at the top of my head post-shower. This thing is life-giving in so many ways. First off, my hair dries much faster in it. Secondly, it has a little button and loop fastener so it doesn’t slip off your head. Thirdly, it’s so lightweight you barely feel like you’re wearing anything on your head. When I originally ventured into the Aquis hair turban land, I bought the rectangle towel without the button, and I could not get it to stay in place. It would unravel and make me crazy (wasted money, you know how I feel about that). Eventually, I bit the bullet and bought this one, and it’s a totally different experience. I throw it in the wash every few laundry cycles when I remember and it’s still like new a few years into owning it.

Simplehuman Extra Large Shower Caddy, $80

Listen. I know $80 for a SHOWER CADDY seems unreasonable. $80 to hold my razor and my shampoo? BUT. When we moved into this apartment three years ago, I decided that I had had enough with garbage cheapy ones that didn’t fit all my items, that cracked and rusted, and that shifted around every time I pumped conditioner into my hand. So I found this one that fits everything, does not rust (it’s been three years, still perfect), has adjustable shelves to accommodate tall or short bottles, has hooks for razers, a little cup for whatever you like to keep in your shower (some people keep their toothbrush in there…I don’t, but I’d imagine you could do that with this easily), and has very, very good suction so it doesn’t move at all. Honestly, I’d spend $80 all over again because it was that worth it.

Reusable Cotton Pads 15ct, $10

Reusable face pads for toner, makeup remover and the like are a dime a dozen these days. You can get them everywhere and most are good enough, tbh. These are great because they wash well. I’ve had some in the past that didn’t clean well, and there was always makeup smeared on them unless I hand scrubbed them all individually. No thanks. The bag this comes with is a bit too small to wash these effectively, which leads me to…

Medium Lingerie Bag, $6

A fine mesh lingerie bag! I use these for SO many things: my reusable facial cotton pads, face masks, bras, any delicate underwear (like lace), delicate blouses, all my socks so they don’t get lost. SO functional. They make different sizes of these, and I have a medium one and a large one. In the past, I’ve bought lingerie bags that were kind of like tubes or cubes, and I hated them. Worthless. You fit one thing in them and you’re done. So dumb. These pouches are far more efficient and user-friendly.

Revlon One-Step Hair Dryer, $40

At this point, you’ve likely already heard about this dozens of times over from other people, but I’m going to tell you again. Now that I work from home, I almost never style my hair—too lazy—but when I worked in an office or used to go out and see people, I could blow dry my hair in five minutes or less and it was always voluminous and sleek. When I used to have a traditional blow dryer and round brush, my hair was always poufy and frizzy, but this thing is pretty foolproof. I’ve had mine since 2017 and it’s still working great. I probably need to clean the bristles, but otherwise, solid investment.

I bet there are other things I can share that I’m just blanking on, but for now, I hope these six things are of interest to you and if you give them a try, let me know!

See you tomorrow, FOAS.
