When I worked on my living room nearly two years ago, I hemmed and hawed over my curtains for SO long. You’d swear I was picking out my first child’s name or where I was going to college. But certain design decisions make or break a room, people! After all the fabric swatches, the Photoshopping, the research on custom curtains, the “should I do a floral/stripe/blockprint/linen” thoughts, I settled on…🥁 drumroll 🥁…WHITE COTTON PANELS FROM IKEA. Groundbreaking stuff, I know. But something I naively overlooked during the mood board phase of design was how much g.d. money designing and styling out a room actually costs. Good grief. You go into it thinking “oh, it’ll just be a little something here and there.” No. Like when you pack to move, it’s all the little things that eat away at your patience/budget. So going the IKEA curtain route satisfied my need to just make a friggin’ decision that was “good enough” but also didn’t bankrupt me. This is a rental, after all, and going the route of $$$ window coverings was just plain irresponsible and foolish. While I 100% believe in investing in your home even if temporary, some things just don’t,...
July faves: Every month, I share my favorite things I bought, cooked and watched.
Settle in, I’m talking about bras and boobs today. If you’ve ever struggled with where to buy bras because you don’t fit in the standard sizes, I’ve got a post for you. If you want a new place to get quality underwear, I’ve also got a post for you. Some back story: I wore the wrong bra size until I was, eh…25? Not because I was walking around in denial, but because I simply didn’t know where to go to get what I needed. I certainly wasn’t strolling into Victoria’s Secret, let alone Target, and getting anything larger than a DD. I was always a pretty consistent 36 band-size, but I’d move up in band size knowing the cups would also increase. At some point, I think I was wearing a 40DDD and getting by with camisoles that had built-in shelf bras in them for support, since a band that’s four inches too larger really wasn’t doing me any favors. I had SO many cheap bras, constantly on the hunt for something that fit even remotely well; drawer fulls of rejects or “almosts.” My standards were so low that “not completely falling out of it” constituted a success for me.,...
Well, that’s a mouthful of a title, but it’s the truth. Quarantine has been lots of things for lots of people. For some, it’s been “the great pause” as I’ve heard it be named. A call to stop the hustle and bustle of the world, and fall back into a slower pace of life. Banana bread and sourdough starters, oh my. For others, it’s been a harsh necessity—perhaps a loved one or they themselves have suffered health-wise from COVID-19. Whether these last four months have been bleak to you because you’ve lost your job, your health, your family, or your sanity (I don’t understand how parents are doing this, particularly parents with full-time jobs and young children who need constant attention), we’re all going through something life-altering. That’s for absolute certain. I’ve so far been immensely lucky in that my family, my friends, my household is healthy. I’ve been blessed to have too much time on my hands to think about life, desires, “what’s next” rather than thinking about how the rent will be paid, or if a loved one will pull through. I wanted to preface everything with that because first and foremost, I recognize my current state of,...
