Project 365, Day 227/365

I’ve said my fair share of words about Instagram. How it exhausts me, how I put so little effort into my own because it feels like a never-ending rat race of “engagement” and “algorithms” BUT, that doesn’t mean there aren’t some feel-good gems. When every day feels like a bad news club sandwich—just layers and layers of discouraging news about…all the things—and you’re tired of seeing the same meaningless albeit funny memes that all your friends DM you 20 minutes after you already saw them, you just want something else. Sure, you can hop off your phone, go read a book, go do something with your hands, go call a friend. All of those are far better alternatives, but if you want to add some goodness to your feeds for when you are scrolling along, these are some of my favorites:

We Rate Dogs

Oh my gosh do I love this account. My sister-in-law turned me on to it years ago and it’s still one of my favorite accounts on all of Instagram. The captions are always golden, the doggos are adorable, and they do so many amazing crowdsourced fundraisers for little pups in need (they all get fully funded in minutes, literally every time, and I’ve never gotten around to actually contributing but I plan to). Every dog is rated, but no pup ever gets below a 10/10, you know…for fairness. If you love dogs and love a little humor, this is for you.

The Be Happy Project

So many of the uplifting quotes I have saved to my “Feel Good” bookmark folder come from this account. Part uplifting, part inspiring, part motivational, when I see a post pop into my feed, it’s a nice reminder of my own strength.

Upworthy

You don’t have an account with the tagline “Delivering you the best of humanity every day” and not get something good. It’s a mix of funny little moments, amazing human-focused news, and everything meant to make you ugly cry but for all the right reasons. It’s a good reminder that it’s not all bad. There is, in fact, a lot of good out there.

Tanks Good News

Similar in vibe to Upworthy with maybe a little more wholesome “funnies” mixed in.

Some Good News

At the start of the pandemic, back in spring 2020, Jon Krasinski (of “The Office” fame) started a silly little news show from his home that quickly took off. I’ve since stopped watching the show (I think it was actually supposed to be picked up by CBS, but not sure if it ever was because I don’t have cable), but I do still follow the Instagram account. It’s very much in the same vein as the previous two, but a bit more user-generated/submitted feel-good stories that always warm my heart and soul.

Morgan Harper Nichols

Morgan’s account is a new-ish find for me, but I’m so glad I stumbled upon her work. She mixes beautiful illustrations with poetry and uplifting messages. Just beautiful.

Tabitha Brown

I’m sure I’ve mentioned Tabitha Brown before, but I’ll say it again: this woman is sunshine personified. Humble, genuine, gentle and just so, so lovely. I rarely listen to videos with sound, but when I see her, I always tap to listen, because, well, when Tabitha speaks, I want to hear what she has to say. She’s also vegan and occasionally cooks up meals that always look so good. What a delight of a person that always leaves you feeling a bit better than before.

And that’s it friends. Some feel-good stuff to fill our feeds with goodness. Happy Sunday all, and thank you for being here.

See you tomorrow, FOAS.
