Project 365, Day 204/365

WE MADE IT. I think I’m going to start every Friday with that, in celebration regardless of how the week was. In truth, every day should be celebrated, yeah? WE MADE IT…Monday edition. WE MADE IT…Wednesday edition. You get me. Imagine waking up every morning with the vigor to jump out of bed and yell with glee at the top of your lungs “WE MADE IT!” I mean…that seems like a great way to live, I think. If I try that tomorrow, I’m sure Charles—who wakes up well before I do most mornings—will run into the room and check on me. We’ll see what happens.

Anyhow, we did, indeed, make it to Friday, and it’s so wonderful. I think we’re going to get a break in the heat this Sunday, which I’m looking so forward to, and I took Monday off as a “get some personal stuff done” day which includes my first salon haircut since December 2019. I’m pretty excited, tbh. Anyone doing something they’re looking forward to this weekend?

Here’s what’s been swirling in my head this week:

Quick Thing #1

I love my dining room, but I dream of the day that I can put up some moldings and wallpaper and create something more like this.

Quick Thing #2

I’m about a year+ late on this but I just bought a new set of fabric masks because mine were literally falling apart, and I really like them! They’re from Baggu, and they have so many cute patterns. The size is really great on my face, they have the metal nose closure, adjustable ear straps, a pocket for filters and just pretty comfortable in general. I have some friends who have been wearing these all along so when it came to pick up some more (mask mandates are back here in LA—not that I really stopped wearing them—plus I’ll be traveling soon), I knew just where to go.

Quick Thing #3

After my cotton shirt roundup from earlier this week, I narrowed in on a handful to buy and a package already came. I didn’t write about this one shirt in particular, because I found it at the last minute, but I really like it! But I have a hack: I find that tie-front shirts are always so short, and with a larger bust, it just makes short shirts even shorter so I opted for the “tall” version instead and it’s the perfect length! It hits me right at the end of my torso with just a little bit more to cover a waistband. Score!

Quick Thing #4

Forgive me if I’ve shared this already…I may have, but I’ve taken to staring at photos and videos of pasta on Instagram (I love to torture myself when I’m not eating a certain thing) and I can’t stop thinking about one of my favorite simple pasta dishes from one of my favorite LA restaurants, Jon & Vinny’s. Their spicy fusilli is essentially just a vodka sauce but the balance is a bit different—way more tomato paste, shallots, red pepper flakes—than a traditional vodka sauce and it really works. Give it a try if you haven’t already and it fits into what you eat. It’s so good.

Quick Thing #5

Have you heard of the app Be My Eyes? I stumbled upon an article about it a bit ago and while I haven’t done it yet, I’m very much thinking about it. It’s so wonderful. Here’s the gist: it pairs blind or low-vision people with volunteers over video chat to help them with everyday tasks. For instance, if someone needs help picking almond milk in the dairy case if they can’t pick it out over all the other options. They open the app, it connects them with a sighted person, they guide them to the right pick, and that’s that. How wonderful, huh?

See you tomorrow, FOAS!
