My Favorite Heat-Less Hair Tool + A Bit of a Catharsis

Last week, I wrote a post and did what I normally do next: schedule an email blast about it to bring people to the site who are subscribed to receive emails just like that one. I’m used to the occasional person unsubscribing. I get it. There are SO many emails that come through my inbox every day, it makes my eyes cross. People who I originally followed that maybe I’ve fallen out of the rhythm of reading, stores I once frequented…all these things trigger my unsubscribe button finger.

So, like I was saying, last week, I sent out an email to point to a post I had written. And I had a few people unsubscribe as they normally do. No biggie. But someone else subscribed and marked the email as “spammy content” which falls under an abuse complaint in Mailchimp, which is my email platform. It’s not the first time this has happened, but for some reason, it really stung. No one owes me anything. No one needs to be here. I’m grateful for every set of eyes that crosses the threshold of this blog, whether it’s one of you or hundreds of you. But I kept seeing “spammy content” and “abuse complaint” flash in my mind and I got gun shy. I haven’t really been sending email notifications since then, almost sheepishly.

Writing on the internet, or putting yourself out there in any way is humbling and inherently leaves you open to criticism. I’ve had people basically dehumanize me for posts about wallpaper they didn’t deem good enough (true story…for another time or maybe never). So, I have some fairly thick Internet skin. But “spammy content” in my happy place, my little blog with my FOAS, hit a little differently. I’d like to think this person just casually unsubscribed and maybe hit the wrong button when asked for the reason why. I definitely shouldn’t care that much. But I care so greatly about everyone here.

Anyhow, I’m not sure why I’m sharing this vulnerability today but it’s just what came out of my fingers when I started typing about my favorite hair towel. Let’s call it a bit of a catharsis, I suppose. I’m going to keep on keepin’ on.

So, let’s get to it.

Product name: AQUIS Original Lightweight Travel Hair Turban

Why I like it: My whole life, up until getting this hair turban, I’d tolerate a flopping, heavy bath towel wrapped around my wet hair that never stayed in place. It drove me nuts but I didn’t think there was another option. I don’t normally like using heat tools on my hair, so effective air drying is important to me. This is made from a lightweight yet absorbent microfiber that’s moisture-wicking, which means my hair dries much faster after wearing this for about 20 minutes. It promises sleeker, healthier, less frizzy hair, and while I can’t necessarily attest to that, I will say my hair dries very nicely with minimal effort, though that could be the difference between humidity-lacking California vs. the swamp that was Florida. The best part to me is the little button loop closure that ensures this thing stays in place, which it does.

See you tomorrow, FOAS.
