Pink-Sauce Pizza, A Fantastic Hot Chocolate, Some Uplifting Messages: 5 Quick Things

Well, well, well, if it isn’t Friday. 🙂 Here we are! A week away from Christmas Eve somehow and I feel like I’ve barely made a dent in my requisite holiday movie list. I have lots of work to do still…Cookies to bake, flicks to watch, lights to see, fake snow to admire falling from the sky. We’ve been so focused on getting things ready for baby (of which we’ve also not even done that much) that the days and weeks fly by and no merriment has been had. Fear not…I plan on changing that very soon. How about you?

Here’s what caught my eye this week:

Quick Thing #1

Sheet pan alla vodka PIZZA? This looks serious. (For something a bit lighter between heavier days, this salmon with garlic lemon butter sauce I made last night was excellent with asparagus and a little rice pilaf!)

Quick Thing #2

“Notice how the flowers still grow when the days are long and slow.” This series of five slides is so, so lovely.

Quick Thing #3

Maybe it’s my skin tone or my skin texture or just bad luck, but I always have the hardest time finding a highlighter for my face that doesn’t look glittery or overly white or too gold. But I’ve been using this highlighter stick from a new-to-me brand called Merit and I think I may have landed on something good. It’s subtle, creamy but picks up light and gives you just enough glow for an everyday face. I’m into it.

Quick Thing #4

Over Thanksgiving, we went away with some friends who shared this fantastic Mexican hot chocolate mix with us while we were there. It was perfectly thick, just sweet enough with hints of spices…very well balanced and not cloying how some chocolates tend to be. If you’re local to the LA area, you can pick some up at any La Monarca Bakery, and if you’re not, it’s well worth the $8 price tag. Not sure it’s something that would arrive by Christmas, but who says cocoa drinking has to stop on December 25?

Quick Thing #5

Anyone seen 8-bit Christmas on HBO Max? My sister demanded I watch it with Charles, and we had so much fun with it. If you grew up in the late ’80s or even early ’90s, you’ll get a kick out of it for sure. It has A Christmas Story vibes to it (which is one of my favorites) but is set in the ’80s around the original Nintendo NES (and Cabbage Patch Kids dolls) craze.

See you Monday, FOAS.
