Shop With Me: White Oak Dressers

Project 365, Day 147/365

Today was a big step forward in my room design: the lined Belgian linen curtains I ordered from Marshalls.com arrived! I hung one panel and thought “hmm…let’s see what the Target ones look like.” Those should be arriving Friday, and I don’t envy myself for having to choose. Now that things are actually in motion, I’m moving on to some other pieces. I have my eye on two dressers in particular, but need to visually pair them up with nightstands to make sure things are looking cohesive yet eclectic.

I’m after a simple but special white oak dresser. I need something between 60 and 70 inches, about 30-inches tall and 18 to 20 inches deep. I’ve had my fair share of budget conscious dressers (read: IKEA and the like) in my past, and while those have been great, I’m really looking for a piece that will be with us for many, MANY years to come. Ideally, it’ll be mostly solid wood with nothing too over the top visually. I did find a few fun options (like the dressers from Burke Decor and Crate & Barrel), but I don’t want anything that will age itself.

Of course, solid white oak is, uh, expensive, so I’m keeping my eye on Facebook Marketplace and other second-hand sites to see what I might be able to uncover. I may have better luck hunting down nightstands there than the dresser I’m after, though, and I’d be okay with that.

All the ones I’ve Pinned recently aren’t 100% a match to the dimensions I need, but I’m sharing them anyway in case they inspire you for any projects you’re working on.

Let’s go shopping, shall we?

You may be looking at the below board and thinking…uh, all of these look the same, but I promise they’re different. Again, I want something simple, possibly without hardware. I’ve had #3 from Room & Board on my bedroom rough design board for months. I still really love it, particularly because it has 10 drawers rather than the standard six. It may be a bit too large, however, but I’ll know better when I settle on a bed. (By the way, my design process might seem kind of all over the place, but it’s mostly how I’m sharing things. I like to narrow down large pieces altogether—bed, dresser, nightstands, armoire—then play with them together in Photoshop to see how things work together. Then I layer in textiles, lighting and decor, but it all kind of happens together.) #5 from Article is one of the more affordable options up there, but its silhouette is a touch too mid-century for what I’m after. #1 from EQ3 is a solid top contender, but it’s been out of stock for ages and I’m losing faith it’ll come back any time soon.

1. Marcel Double Dresser in Oak at EQ3, $1,399

2. Avers Dresser at Hedge House, $2,799

3. Anton 10-Drawer Dresser in White Oak at Room & Board, $3,299

4. White Oak Modern Dresser at 1st Dibs, $2,750

5. Lenia Dresser in White Oak at Article, $1,199

6. Monarch Double Dresser in Oak at EQ3, $1,399

This next set is a touch more adventurous. That cerused white oak dresser from Crate & Barrel (#1) makes my heart pitter-patter but it’s not available until SEPTEMBER and while that’s not too long to wait for something you love, I’ll have to think about it a bit more. Again, #4, from Burke Decor, is so much fun with those playful knobs, but I do worry that it’s just too much of a “look.” I’ll have to see where I land with my bed and larger armoire piece. If those end up being a bit simpler, I could take a little more of a risk there.

2. Casa Oak 6-Drawer Dresser at Crate & Barrel, $1,399

2. Karma 6-Drawer Dresser at Lulu & Georgia, $1,699

3. Peek 6-Drawer Dresser in White Oak by Blu Dot at CA Modern Home, $2,299

4. Mallory 6-Drawer Dresser at Burke Design, $1,699

5. Era 8-Drawer Combo Dresser at Wayfair, $999

6. Cortez Floating Dresser in Natural at Crate & Barrel, $1,699

So that’s where I am. I may luck out with a fantastic (well-priced) vintage piece in the end, but these are at least my visual reference point to work from. I’ll keep you posted when I start making some decisions.

See you tomorrow, FOAS.
