Yet Another Fun Show, Strawberry Shortcake Cookie Dough, A Design Site to Peruse: 5 Quick Things
Project 365, Day 183/365 (I mis-counted by a day, yay!)
We did it! We made it to the Friday before a holiday weekend (if you’re in the states). Working in e-commerce, I don’t get many federal days off, but I do get the 4th off, which I’m SO happy about. There’s something about the day that always makes me feel content. We don’t do much, but I always get the urge to make key lime pie, or strawberry sorbet, or peach cobbler, and eat hot dogs and beans outside on a pool deck. Growing up, there was always a parade to go to in my area. When I was old enough, the marching band I was in would perform in said parade. Then there was always a festival to head to, to sweat our tushes off in the disgusting Florida humidity as we stuffed grilled down into our mouths. The day always ended with a fireworks display. In Orlando, you never had to go too far to see fireworks at any point in the year, let alone on a key fireworks day.
There’s a part of me that’s always envisioned building a leisurely summer vacation around the fourth. If I close my eyes, I see a lake house, family, cut off jean shorts and sandals. Maybe there are some rocking chairs on a porch and there’s some iced tea involved. I’ve never quite had a 4th of July like that, but I hope to one day. Either way, it’s always been a nice time, so I hope anyone stateside has a lovely weekend with some fun built in.
OH ALSO, I officially crossed the 6-month threshold. Honestly, longest 6 months of my life. HA. My friend texted me the other day about how she didn’t know how I worked a full-time job and had a daily blog, and my answer is not the least bit inspiring: “By muttering ‘I don’t want to do this, I don’t want to do this’ over and over again as I walk over to my computer.” So yeah…it’s hard. It’s usually worth it, as most hard things are, but I’m not going to sugarcoat it. It’s like having a day job and a night job…that you don’t get paid to do. A night volunteer gig. Fulfilling in ways, but exhausting when you’d rather be in bed watching Friends. ANYWAY…
Here’s what I had my eye on this week:
Quick Thing #1
Here’s a new show to binge: Working Moms on Netflix. A friend of mine (who is not a mother) told me (also not a mother) about it a while back, and I kind of shrugged it off after watching the first few minutes of the first episode. But randomly, we put it on last week and we’re hooked. Each episode is a quick 20-something minute and the seasons go fast, which is both good and bad because now I’m almost done with it.
Quick Thing #2
Have I talked about my love of Nutpods at any point? I honestly cannot remember, so I figured if I don’t remember, neither do you. I’m not a daily coffee drinker anymore, though I have the occasional cup when I’m craving it (rather than desperately need it), and I use Nutpods as my creamer. I rarely, if ever, buy milk or dairy creamer at home as I used to make my own nut milks, but I found this the last time I did Whole30 and it’s a solid replacement. It’s thick, creamy, doesn’t have any weird “nutty” tastes. I bet if I did a blind taste test, you’d be hard-pressed to tell the difference between this and half and half. They sell them at the grocery store, but I had it on auto-ship for a long time.
Quick Thing #3
I can’t tell if this vegan, gluten-free “strawberry shortcake cookie dough” is going to be a huge fail or a huge win, but I want to try it.
Quick Thing #4
Do you know about the website The Design Files? It’s an Australian design outlet and also one of my favorite places to get lost and explore house tours. Australian interior design has such a edgy-meets-ease sensibility that I love, and that’s everpresent in the places they chose to feature. Enjoy getting lost in there like I do!
Quick Thing #5
Anyone else’s brain activate “waiting mode” hours before they have to do something like mine does?
See you tomorrow, FOAS.
