A New Take On My Bedroom Moodboard

Project 365, Day 196/365

This feels like version 278 of this room, but don’t worry, I’m not beating myself up over it, because I’m actually very into this one. There’s something a bit more eclectic and collected about it than the previous iterations and that’s really exciting me. Sometimes, when you are hitting a wall and can’t find the motivation or inspiration to move forward with something, you should take that as a sign that something isn’t sitting right with you.

Not only is this a lesson in design, but real life. Isn’t this how it always is? But until you’ve had some epiphany, small or large, it’s hard to see that that’s what was going on. I don’t dislike what I used to have, but it didn’t feel like me. It didn’t feel like the rooms that made my heart race. It felt too…cool? But this, with its mix of old and new, warmer wood tones, color punches and a touch of traditional via a fabric to reupholster my existing chair, now…we’re cooking with gas.

As a reminder, this is where I last left the design:

And again, this is where I just landed:

You can see the swatch of the Sherwin-Williams Canyon Clay color I talked about in yesterday’s post next to a nightstand. I really like the idea of rehabbing some old wood nightstands I pick up on Craigslist or Facebook Marketplace and giving them a paint job. I’ve had painted nightstands for years, and I didn’t think I was going to go that route again, but it could be really good against my wall color.

I think there are a few things missing, of course. Greenery via a plant, some hits of black, art, but it’s getting there and I’m excited again. Charles needs to mock up whether a king of this bed will fit in this space (or a version I DIY, which is still on the table) before I move forward with anything, but I’ll show you his drawings and mock-ups of both a king and queen when he has those for me, because there are some lessons to pull from that I think.

The idea of a vintage burlwood armoire is back from a much older iteration of my room design ideas because I never stopped loving that. Now I just have to find one…easy peasy. 😉 And I know what you’re thinking: Arlyn, do I spy a LINEN duvet cover? Yes, you do, but it’s just a color representation. Besides, I’m not fully against linen for a duvet cover, but well…you know how I feel about the sheets that go on that bed. Percale all the way.

So yes, that’s where I am, and I’m pretty dang happy about it. A yellow velvet bed is no less bold than a rust velvet bed, I realize this, but I’ve always treated yellow as a neutral in my wardrobe…why would I do any different in my room?

Thanks for following along on this journey. Hopefully, things can start happening now that I reestablished my color palette and have my heart set on some things to go hunting for. I’m confident it will come together.

See you tomorrow, FOAS.
