My Sort of Kinda Final Bedroom Moodboards (Take 2)

Project 365, Day 87/365

Well hey there, FOAS. That’s what I landed on yesterday after reading through some suggestions in the comments. (Friends of Arlyn Says). Should we make T-shirts?!? 😉 On Sunday, it’s customary for me to share recipes to make for the week, but I had a bunch of odds and ends I was trying to use up this week, so don’t have much to share in terms of recipes. (OH, and for anyone keeping score, you won’t believe it…Friday was another bust for mission get Charles ice cream! But we finally scored today. Phew, that was a close one.)

Instead, I figured I’d share something a little more fun: an updated (again!) bedroom moodboard. As I mentioned earlier this week, Charles and I painted last weekend, and my dreams of perfectly peach walls were thwarted. The paint I hemmed and hawed over for weeks is a bit rosier than it is peach. It’s actually really lovely and soft and soothing, it’s just not exactly what I had in mind. It’s time for a Tim Gunn moment, and I’m going to make it work.

That said, the vibe is a little different in there, and I needed to rework my moodboards. I’ve been tinkering with these things for months and months, but I’m finally ready to start making moves. Not everything here is a clear and solid winner (I’ll explain), but it’s the gist of what I’m going for. Let’s take a look!

The Bed View

Boy do I love this bed. It’s from Lulu & Georgia, designed by Ginny MacDonald and the rust velvet is perfect. The bed I had before (from the company I work for, actually) was beautiful, but the tone of the velvet was a bit too orange. I liked it against a warmer peach wall, but against the pink, it’s not my favorite. This color here is much more orange than it really is. It’s actually a warm copper with some brown undertones, and I think it’s just what the wall color needs.

The nightstands have been my dream burlwood nightstands from the very beginning, but they are VERY expensive…like $2,000+ expensive…each. That’s just not a reality, but I’m keeping them on the board as motivation to hopefully find something similar that are ideally vintage, and ideally far more in line with my loose budget.

I finally found these sconces that I LOVE! The shade is linen, so the light will be filtered. So many modern sconces these days are a bare bulb, and I don’t want that by my bed side. Yeesh! The vertical brass part is wrapped in leather I believe. I need to measure as they are quite large, and you best believe I’ll be crushed if they end up being overwhelmingly big.

As for the textiles, I originally dreamed of having mustard velvet curtains for a real drama moment, but I think pink and yellow together feels a bit like a little girl’s room. This needed something grounding, like flax-y linen with some texture. These are from Target, and I’m not linking them because they might sell out before I get to them if I do hahaha! And I’m still playing around with the bedding colors, but it’ll be a mix of neutral tones, blue and ochre.

The Closet View

THIS CABINET IS ALL I THINK ABOUT THESE DAYS. I still haven’t given up hope on a second hand burlwood armoire if I can find one (and then I would not do burlwood for my nightstands), but I came across this at Crate & Barrel and it’s so whimsical and wonderful. It’s a bit of a beast in terms of size, so again, I need to spend time measuring and then getting all these plans to scale, but I won’t crush my dreams just yet in the horrific case that it actually ends up overwhelming the space in terms of size. I plan on keeping all my shoes, linens, jewelry, random things like my face steamer and whatnot in here. Meaning, this is FOR ME AND NO ONE ELSE (Charles, love you).

As a reminder, the door on the left is to the closet, and the door on the right is a representation of the door to the room, ajar. I’m on the hunt for a full-length mirror that either I hang on the wall or sits on the floor. Maybe something vintage and cool…we’ll see what I can dig up! I also think a little stool or pouf under the mirror if I hang it would be good to add some color here.

The TV View

Here’s what I’m thinking for the view from my bed, toward the dresser and TV. We don’t have a dresser right now, so the new storage space will be awesome. Our TV currently sits atop an old 3-drawer chest that used to be one of our nightstands in Florida but I’ll probably sell it as I don’t have much use for it anymore. I love white oak, and I think it’ll add a nice neutral warmth to the blush walls. The chair is one of the first things I ever bought for my very first apartment 10 years ago, and I’m thinking of reupholstering it in an ochre velvet to balance the bedding I pick. A little drinks table, a fun lamp, definitely a plant and some art will round out the space.

And that’s it! I know once I go to finalize pieces after I measure, things will continue to change. Lead times on furniture and decor right now are interminable, so I may pivot depending on how long the wait is. I’m ready to have a beautiful room I can enjoy! I also have some fun vintage pieces I’ve been picking up as decor and art over the years I’ll use to style things and add that last layer of “life.” I’m excited!

See you tomorrow, friends!
